Did you hire a landscaping company for regular lawn maintenance, but your yard just doesn't look as beautiful as you’d like? You’d be interested to know that there is additional care that your yard may need.

At J. Ponce and Son Landscaping, San Antonio, we care about your yard and today we want you to learn about the importance of quarterly fertilization.

To have a precious and healthy green in your front and back yard, where you spend quality time with your loved ones, efficient fertilization is essential. Let’s start by learning when and how to fertilize your yard.

When to fertilize your yard:

At J. Ponce and Son Landscaping, we recommend quarterly fertilization.

The 1st fertilization for your lawn should be done during March - April. For the fertilizer to be well absorbed, the grass has to be actively growing. This is a good sign that the grass is healthy and will absorb any product that you add to it. After the second mowing of the season, apply a basic fertilizer. There is such a wide variety to choose from.

Second fertilization can be done around May - August. This is the summer fertilization. The product to apply is slow-release. Ask your local store what they recommend!

During June - September, it is time for a Chelated Iron Lawn Fertilization. It mainly helps if your grass looks yellow and doesn’t look strong. You can use granular or liquid products - you just need to ensure to use an iron supplement.

For the last period of fertilization, during October - November which is the fall fertilization, your grass needs winter or fall formulas which will help to provide a beautiful and early spring green-up.

Final recomendations

As a homeowner, you must first determine the type of grass you have in order to know how to fertilize your lawn. You must plan accordingly, know which products to use and know how to apply them.

You have to be very careful in regards to measures and apply them correctly. Keep in mind when fertilizers are applied incorrectly, they can be harmful. Fertilization is essential to a healthy front and back yard.
